SatComBw stands for Satellitenkommunikation der Bundeswehr, the German Defence Forces satellite communication system. The mission of the German Defence Forces has changed radically since the end of 1991. Prior to this, 90% of its duties during the Cold War involved national defence, but its mission since then has been defined by so-called out-of-area operations. Overseas deployments began with UN Resolution 745 (UNTAC/Cambodia), with the German Defence Forces being transformed step by step from a defensive army to a protection and auxiliary support force.
